Huey Taylor Obituary

Huey Otis Taylor went home to be with his Heavenly Father at 1:45 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2011, at Ochsner Medical Center in Baton Rouge. He was 90 and a native and resident of Colyell. He was the retired owner and operator of Taylor's Grocery and Hardware Store for more than 30 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II serving in the European Theater. Visitation will be held at Seale Funeral Home in Livingston on Thursday, Sept. 22, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visitation continues at Colyell Baptist Church on Friday, Sept. 23, from 9 a.m. until religious services at 11 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Bill Holifield, the Rev. Bill Pianki, the Rev. Delmas Taylor, the Rev. Craig Forque, the Rev. Paul Taylor and the Rev. Clifton Wheat. Burial in Colyell Baptist Church Cemetery. Survived by his wife of 63 years, Amy Wheat Taylor; daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Darcy Roberts; son and daughter-in-law, Otis "O.T." and Rachelle Phillips Taylor; four grandsons, Casey and wife Tracey Zalfen Kinchen, Phillip Taylor and fiancée Jennifer McDonald, John and Samuel Taylor; two great-grandsons, Matthew and Mason Kinchen; four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Albertine McConathy, Winona Watts, Ellen and John Kleinpeter and Martha Ann and Billy Johnson; three brothers and sisters-in-law, William "Billy" and Doris Taylor, Roosevelt and Mary Taylor and Erwin and Evelle Taylor; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Judy Wheat Morrison, Eloise Wheat and Margaret Wheat, Ambers and Margie Wheat and Fieldon Wheat; special friends, the Milton Northcraft and Eldon Myers families; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Preceded in death by his parents, Ollie Monroe and Elizabeth McAllister Taylor; granddaughter, Jessica Reneé Roberts; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Joseph S. and Irma Averett Wheat; brothers and sisters-in-law, Isiah "Bear" and Joyce Taylor, Johnny and Louise Taylor and Ollie Valmond Taylor; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Dorothy Jane and Lou Watts, Argilee and Will Averett, Jay McConathy, Ervin Watts, Vandell Wheat and Bill Wheat. Pallbearers will be his nephews, Michael Averett, Randy Taylor, Kenneth Watts, Dwight Taylor, David Watts, Ricky Taylor, Brent Taylor and Jeff Johnson. Honorary pallbearers are Kemp "Blue Boy" Wheat and Hulon Taylor. He was a member of Colyell Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, Sunday school director, Sunday school teacher and also served as the chairman of Together We Build Program. He was on the board of directors at the First National Bank in Denham Springs and later was on the board of advisers at Hancock Bank of Louisiana. He also was a member of the Hurd Merrill Masonic Lodge 454 F&AM and a member of the American Legion Post 372. In lieu of flowers, family requests memorial donations be made to the Colyell Baptist Church Youth Room, 19524 La. 42, Livingston, LA 70754. you have touched & enriched so many lives with us here. you have always been such a role model to all of us for the love you & aunt amy always shared, & that's always been such an inspiration for everyone who paid attention, i know i certainly did. you will be sorely missed, but on that great day when that mighty trumpet sounds, we'll all be together again. until then, know that you are never apart from out heart or memories.

Ms. Amy, Donna & Ot. Mr Huey was a loving and caring person who will be missed by many. When we moved here he took us in like we had always been part of the community. He always had a kind smile.
