Mr Newman gave selflessly and tirelessly to his country, his neighbors and the Scotlandville comunity. Whenever my family or neighbor was in crisis, he was always there. I am eternally grateful to have known such a fine human being in my lifetime. My sincere condolences to Mrs. Newman and family.

What a "jewel" of a man! Simply remarkable and a class-act. There's never been another community worker to even come close to Mr. Newman. He lived a very noble, unselfish and honorable life; therefore, his labor was not in vain.

Thanks for everything, Mr. Newman! You gave many of us hope, inspiration and purpose, helping us become productive citizens in society. Thanks for the precious memories!

With a grateful heart,

Mrs. Fathiya Freeman Davis

What a very generous, compassionate, and kind-hearted human being Mr. Newman was. He touched many lives and helped many people in various capacities. I greatly appreciate and will never forget how he was responsible for me acquiring my very first job. It was a temporary summer job and I was only 12-years-old at the time. He lived a very long and full life, laboring steadfastly with the heart of a true servant; great are his rewards in Heaven. May almighty God grant his family daily peace, comfort, grace, and mercy. Rejoice in knowing he is now eternally in the presence of the Lord; gone, but never forgotten.

"Well done, good and faithful servant."

Prayerfully yours,

Mrs. Newman, we are praying for you and your family. If we had more public servants like Mr. Newman instead of politicians, the world would be a better place. Mr. Newman was one of a kind. He truly cared about people and their concerns. Our district will never see a public servant like him again. My husband and I had the occasion to take our grandsons to meet Mr. Newman so they could meet a great man and someone who was very instrumental in our lives. God Bless!

Earl & Lillian White Met Mr. Jewel J. Newman in 1963 after we were married, he gave me my first job as a married man. He said "you got the job if you fix that flat tire young man!" I fixed the flat and got the job making $39.00 a week, while my wife and I attended Southern University, our sophomore and
part of my Junior year. He watched us until we graduated from college with our two sons Tim & Andre'. We stayed in touch throughout for over 50 years. He helped a lot of young people and was a great man to learn from. He gave us our start and we are grateful to have known Mr. Newman and his family his dad, Mr. Joseph "Papa" Newman, his wife Sallie and their children.Be blessed and as you always said "God is good all the time and all the time God is Good!" Get your rest now and be with God.

Sallie, there's a lot to be said about someone who's willing to be of assistance and come through to help those who call upon him. My sisters (Sadie, Carol) and I will not forget how Mr. Newman helped us in a moments notice. Thank you, Sallie, for being there also. (A Park Vista Neighbor)
