Joan Carlene Richard Abbott, born September 11, 1958, died October 28, 2013. An active member of St. John's United Methodist Church, Joan led the youth handbell choirs for many years. Her handbell choirs were seen playing Christmas music in malls, downtown, on tour, on "The Around Town" show, and leading LSU basketball fans in the National Anthem. A lifelong lover of music, her beautiful voice touched many hearts. Joan was proud of both her Cajun and Celtic heritages and served as a past president and board member of the Louisiana Celtic Society. She is survived by her husband, Richard, two sons and daughters-in-law, Lee and Ava, and David and Vanessa, elder brother, Martin, Jr., elder sister and brother-in-law, Janet and John, younger brother and sister-in-law, Mark and Betty, younger sister, Julie, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws who will miss her deeply. A memorial service and celebration of life will be held at St John's United Methodist Church, 9375 Highland Rd., Baton Rouge, LA 70810, on Saturday, November 2, 2013 at 2pm celebrated by Reverend Juan Huertas.
