John M. "Tinker" DeLage Jr.

John DeLage Obituary

"And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren." Romans 8:28-29. John "Tinker" DeLage Jr. went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Oct. 17, 2010, at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. He was surrounded by his family and blessed to have some of his New Beginnings family with him. He was born Feb. 20, 1943, in Baton Rouge, and was 67 years old. Visitation at Healing Place Church Annex on Thursday, Oct. 21, from 10 a.m. until service at 1 p.m., conducted by Brother Wayne Austin. Interment in Oak Lane Memorial Park in Prairieville. He is survived by "his first wife" of 42 years, Janet Holland DeLage; daughter, Angie DeLage Mitchell, her husband, Chris, and their children, Sophia and Savannah; son, John DeLage III, his wife, Melissa, and their children, Peyton, Landon, Bryson, Brennan, Asher and expected child, John M. DeLage IV; special child, Katherine Kippers; brother and best friend, Dr. William "Bugger" DeLage, his wife, Charlene, and their children, Holly, Noelle and Tim; brothers-in-law, James "Horace" Holland, his wife, Dusty, and their children, Lola, James "Bo," Walter, Janice, Helen, Kathryn, George, Emily, Melvin, Brian, Donald and Nancy; Donald Holland, his wife, Gaynell, and their children, Donna, Paula and Terri; and Leroy Holland; and his dog, Brutus. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Leah Nevils DeLage. Anyone who knew him knows how much he loved children, especially his grandchildren, whom he adored and loved with all of his heart, but his greatest love was his love for the Lord. He never missed a day sharing his love of the Lord with his friends on Facebook and Twitter. He loved the time he spent working in the ministry of New Beginnings and with the prayer partners at Healing Place Church. Pallbearers will be Matt Bourgeois, Xavier Branch, Greg Agar, Preston Saucier, Andrew Tullos, Dennis Bachaleda, James Sanders and John Robert Miller. Honorary pallbearers are all of his extended family at New Beginnings. Special thanks to Dr. William Hines, Dr. Mark Kantrow and the fifth floor nurses at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center for their loving care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Healing Place Church for New Beginnings and/or Project 14.

Not sure what to say?

Hello Bugger,
I'm not sure if we ever met that I could remember. My Dad was always bringing our family to BBQ's or other events and "Uncle" Tinker was always so fun and engaging. I am so thankful for the great memories I have of him and Aunt Janet and everyone else. May God Bless you and yours!

Love,
Ali

Oh wow.. I am very sadden to hear of Tinker's passing.. I will never forget the smiling face.. the good times at work and the great times bowling.. I remember the 'show off' "burning" the knees of a pair of polyester pants sliding on the floor as the strike registered on the other end of the alley.. beams.. my sympathies to Janet and the family.. may he rest in the Lord's hands tonight..

Dear Janet: I am so sorry to read about John. I have been thinking about you guys for quite some time. I went back to Louisiana in June and had intended to call while there but it was father's day weekend so I figured you would be busy doing "daddy" thinks. I kick myself for not doing so now. I started a letter to you ages ago after I read about Diane but....more good intentions. God bless and take care.

Dear Janet, Angie and family, I am so sorry we did not know of John's illness until a few days ago. I remember when my husband and I last saw you and John at Sam's. Remembering the days of church and Bible study together. We've often told new people to our Bible study about the fact that you all stated you had either found some great people, or else you had ended up in a cult! Well, we love you and yours. I know God will see you through this time of earthly loss, looking forward to the great reunion that is to come.

Janet,

Words cannot express how deeply saddened we are for your entire family. John loved the Lord so much and I know that he is with Him now. John was such a source of strength and wisdom for me and so many others.

John Jr. - your daddy was so proud of you! (He told me many times)

We pray that you feel His Holy presence.

May God bless you all,

Dear Angie and Chris,
Uncle Tommy and I are so saddened to hear about the loss of your father and father in law. We were lucky to have met him and enjoy his company. He really seemed to get a lot out of life, especially being around his grandchildren. Tinker is well now and in heaven. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and all your families. Love to all, Aunt Pat
