Juanita Caporino passed away at age 88 on August 1, 2013 surrounded by loving family members. Juanita was born in New Orleans on May 16, 1925. She attended St. Stephen's Grammar School and graduated from Joseph Kohn High School. She married Dominick Caporino and together they raised 6 children. She was an excellent homemaker and mother as well as a well-respected employee at the Rivergate and Superdome. Juanita will be remembered for her strong spirit and intelligence. She was especially known for her open-mindedness and generous spirit. She instilled in her children the love of adventure and world travel. Juanita always had a sense of justice and compassion for others. She always exhibited progressive thinking and was an avid reader. Her diverse interests included opera, ballet, singing, tap-dancing, sewing, crafts and yoga. Juanita kept active throughout her life by playing softball, tennis, racquet ball, and jogging in Audubon Park. She and her husband, Don, enjoyed cooking and preparing new recipes. Juanita's particular passion was baking. Her many cakes and pies were favorites of family and friends. Children on Arabella enjoyed Juanita's special "freezie" cups on hot summer days. Juanita is preceded in death by her husband, Don, daughter Kay, and 6 siblings. Her loss will be deeply felt by her children, Don, Diane, Karen, Paul and Lynn, and her granddaughters Karina Roberts, and Lauren Genovese. Juanita will be greatly missed by her sister and life-long neighbor, Angie, (Aunt Jez). She is also survived by numerous nephews, nieces and friends. Her family extends gratitude to all of the staff at Covenant Home for their attentive and loving care of Juanita. Her spirit will live on in our hearts. Visitation and Mass will be held at Jacob Schoen and Son Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 6 beginning at 9 am. Followed with a Funeral Mass at 11 am.
