Lad William Belehrad, born on Oct. 29, 1918, in Pittsburg, to Jarasolv and Mary Kana Belehrad, died peacefully in his sleep Saturday, Oct. 29, 2011, at exactly 93 years of age. As a child the family moved to Yonkers, N.Y., where he attended Yonkers High School and continued his education at Iowa State University with a major in forestry. Upon graduating, his primary duties to our country were fulfilled while serving as a U.S. Army staff sergeant in World War II. When his duty was completed, he focused on his passion of forestry, beginning in 1939. In 1945, he was overjoyed to have the opportunity to officially begin a life complemented with the love of his new bride, Jean Hartman Belehrad. He soon was discharged from the U.S. Army and settled in DeRidder in 1946. Over the next 10 years, Lad had not only enjoyed the birth of his two sons, but also became an executive of West Brothers, where he later retired. He has been a loyal member of the First Baptist Church of DeRidder, member of the VA and an active member of the community. Lad is survived by his son, Robert Belehrad, of DeRidder; daughter-in-law, Jan Simoneaux Belehrad, of Baton Rouge; grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Shawn and Julie Piper, of Prairieville; granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Katie and David Gilliam, of Grosse Tete; and great-granddaughters, Berkleigh and Madison Gilliam. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Hartman Belehrad; parents, Jarasolv and Mary Kana Belehrad; brother, Jerry Belehrad; and son, Timothy Lad Belehrad. Family and friends are invited to the memorial burial site service only at Beauregard Cemetery, 201-239 Grove St., on the east edge of town on the north side of La. 171, on Thursday, Nov. 3, 2011. Memorial services will start at 1 p.m.
