Mabel Brooks "Mae Bell" Evans, departed this life on Sunday, November 18, 2012, 10:59 p.m. at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge, LA following a brief illness. She was a resident of New Orleans, LA. She was born February 27, 1931 to Alonzo Brooks and Hattie Brown Brooks of Lakeland, LA. She was the wife of the late Leo Joseph Evans, Sr. She was preceded in death by her son, Frank Evans and granddaughter, Dee Wells. She leaves to cherish her memory longtime companion, Roland Melancon; 2 daughters, Anna Nelson Mingo (Abraham) and Lillian Evans; 1 son, Leo J. Evans, Jr. (Bonnie); 4 grandchildren, Inealroe Carter, Mark Nelson (Petra), Christopher Mingo, Courtney Evans; 2 sisters, Ellen Singleton and Evelyn Alexander; 2 brothers, Norbert Simmons and Alonzo Brooks, Jr. and a host of other nieces, nephews, family and friends. Her Home Going Celebration will be held, Monday, November 26, 2012, 10:00 a.m. at Fifth African Baptist Church, 3419 South Robertson, St., NOLA. Officiant: Pastor Dale Sanders. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the hour of service. Interment: Mount Olivet Cemetery.
