Margarette Amick Doré, 91, of Crowley, LA passed away on Friday June 7, 2013 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on January 9, 1922 in Snow Hill, West Virginia. She was the daughter of Jacob and Violet Belle Amick. She graduated from Nicholas County High School in May 1940 and attended Charleston School of Commerce prior to WW II. In 1944 she joined the United States Marine Corps where she served with distinction, rising to the rank of Corporal. While stationed in Quantico, VA, she met the love of her life, Gordon E. Doré. They were married on February 22, 1946 in Quantico. Shortly after their marriage they moved to Crowley, LA, where she resided for the next 67 years. She is survived by her three sons and their spouses; Gordon, Jr. and Caren of Palm Harbor, FL, Bill and Debbie of Crowley, LA, and Lonnie and Carol of Broussard LA; six grandchildren, Noelle Doré Judice and her husband Stephen of Lafayette LA, Jake Doré and his wife Gretchen of Egan, LA, Gordon Doré III and his wife Anne of Reston, VA, Sibyl Doré Bevington and her husband Gregory of Pittsburgh, PA, Ann Doré Lamia and her husband Joseph of Battle Creek, MI, and Christine Doré of Los Angeles, CA; and nine great grandchildren; two sisters, Vada Bennett and Caralea Rogers, and two brothers William Amick and Jacob Amick. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon, her parents, two brothers, Burman Amick, Avra Amick, and her sister, Florena Amick. She was a very active member of the First Baptist Church for 67 years. She volunteered in many capacities including Sunday school teacher and Training Union teacher. She served as president of the Crowley Garden Club, the Three-Ten Club, the Pink Ladies, and chairwomen of the Crowley Beautification Committee. She also served in many other local organizations. Her strong faith and belief in God were a witness to many people. The family expresses deep gratitude to Carolyn DeVeaux, Sherry Woodard and Ann Rogers for many years of loving care. Also a special thanks to nurse Patti Campbell of Hospice of Acadiana. Visitation will be held at Geesey-Ferguson Funeral Home of Crowley LA. Family will receive friends on Monday, June 10 from 2:00-7:00 and Tuesday, June 11, from 11:00 a.m. till time of service. The service will be held on Tuesday, June 11, 2:00, at the First Baptist Church of Crowley. The family request that, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Gordon and Margarette Doré Scholarship Fund though the Community Foundation of Acadiana, 1035 Camellia Boulevard, Suite 100, Lafayette, LA 70508.
