Marilyn Anderson Obituary

Marilyn Ann Michel Anderson passed away Thursday, Aug. 4, 2011, at St. Clare Manor after a long and courageous battle with cancer and Alzheimer's disease. She was born in New Orleans to Joseph Walter Michel Sr. and Josephine Joachim Michel on May 5, 1927. Her family moved to Jackson, Miss., later that year where she resided until 1948 when she married Gary Johnson Anderson Sr. and moved to Baton Rouge. An avid card player, she loved an afternoon with the "girls" at the bridge table. She and Gary were among the founding members of St. Aloysius Parish. She always had a kind word, a quick smile and a welcoming heart. She was a loving and devoted mother and will be deeply missed by her many children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gary Johnson Anderson Jr.; her parents, Joseph Walter Michel Sr. and Josephine Joachim Michel; a daughter, Margaret Lynn Anderson; brothers, Joseph Walter Michel Jr., Calvin (Toots) Michel and Melvin Michel; and sisters, Marvis (Sissy) Michel Trigg and Margaret Michel Head. She is survived by her children, Gary Johnson Anderson III and wife Grace, Walter Michel (Mike) Anderson Sr. and wife Tena, Marvis Anderson Cadwallader and husband Manch S. Cadwallader Jr., Gregory Scott Anderson and Debbie Anderson, Andree Anderson Scott and husband William Eugene (Bill) Scott, and Renee Anderson Nebel and husband Ray James Nebel. Her 13 grandchildren include: Rebecca Lucie Anderson and husband Erik Alves, Meredith Odette Anderson, Michael Anderson and wife Shannon, Ainsley Anderson Garrett and husband Brent, Manch Stanley Cadwallader III, Gregory Scott Anderson Jr. and wife Leslie, Jeffrey Miles Anderson, Brian Douglas Anderson, Michel Scott Fritze and husband Patton, William Briggs Scott, William Eugene Scott, Katherine Elizabeth Nebel and Ray James (Ray Ray) Nebel. She is also survived by six great-grandchildren with another on the way. Special thanks to St. Clare Manor for the loving care given by her nurses, Mary, Delores, Gertrude and Shannon and the entire staff through the years. Special thanks also to Hospice Associates and Donna and Sharon for their gentle guidance and care. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Hospice Associates, 8119 Picardy Ave., Baton Rouge, LA 70809; the Alzheimer's Association, St. Aloysius Catholic Church, or the charity of your choice. The family will hold private graveside services.
