A retired employee of the Department of Veteran Affairs and a longtime employee of the Bank of West Baton Rouge, he passed away peacefully Friday, April 15, 2011, at Baton Rouge General Medical Center-Bluebonnet. He was 84 and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Visiting at Wilbert Funeral Home, Port Allen, on Monday, April 18, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visiting continues at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Brusly, on Tuesday from 8:30 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Matthew Dupre, celebrant. Interment in St. John Cemetery, Brusly. He is survived by a daughter, Dawn M. Altazan; two sisters, Rosemary Hebert, and Faye Warren and husband James; two brothers, Eric Altazan Sr. and wife Frances, and Gerald Altazan; six grandchildren, Ryan D. Altazan Sr. and wife Melissa, Jennifer Wood and husband Kevin, Heather Altazan, Chad King Jr. and wife Amanda, Kristi Shullaw and Joseph Crescionne; 10 great-grandchildren, Mystri, Rebecca, Gage, Triston, Ryan Jr., Kacie, Lisa, Chloe, Caiden and Connor; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his wife, Verna Lee Altazan; daughter, Melissa D. Altazan; parents, Achille and Claudia Altazan; sisters, Helen, Emily and Julie; and brothers, James, Louis and Vernon. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Brusly.
