Richard Earl Brownfield (Poppy) passed away at 6:18p.m., April 29, 2012, at the age of 74. His family was at his bedside. Richard was born in Mansfield, Louisiana on December 2, 1937. He was a graduate of Istrouma High School in 1956, a graduate of LSU and was a retiree from Dow Chemical. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Helen Yiengst Brownfield; children, Shawn McCage and husband, Dr. Sam McCage of Weatherford, TX, Mandi Mashon and husband, Ron Mashon of Watson, Louisiana; sister, Barbara Brownfield of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; and special friend Susan Chapman of Denham Springs, Louisiana. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ross and Grace Brownfield; sister, Billy Brownfield; and friend, Angela Kilroy. Poppy leaves behind his grandchildren, Ryan Grace and Kylie Blackwell; Darian, Rashelle, Bailey Christene and Joseph Gage Mashon. He was an avid fisherman and "lover" of his grandkids. Visitation will be Tuesday, May 1st from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Zoar Baptist Church, 11848 Hooper Road. Visitation will resume at Zoar Baptist Church at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 2nd until funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Special thanks to the Oncology Ward at OLOL Hospital, the Carpenter House, and Doctors Abernathy, Kantrow and Raven.
