A much-loved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, Robert Ponthier, 76, a resident of Zachary, LA, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 19th. He was surrounded by his family and loving wife of 39 years. He is survived by his wife, Myra Lloyd Ponthier; his children, Marlene Lichtenberger of Anchorage, AK, Christine and Douglas McCurry, Zachary, LA and Robbie and Danny Heroman of Baton Rouge; grand-children, Erica Lichtenberger of New York, Jeffrey Lichtenberger of Los Angeles, Adam Lichtenberger of Houston, Luke McCurry and Jerod McCurry of Zachary; Jessie Heroman of Baton Rouge, and Matthew Heroman Austin; great grand-children Cole McCurry, Alisa and Trent Adams. His stepchildren, Michael and Rosanne Kirby of Highlands Ranch, CO; Dennis and Ella Kirby of Zachary and Kim Kirby of Destin, FL; his step grand-children, Travis Kirby of Boston, MA, Emily Kirby Kantor of Fort Collins, CO, Zeke and Joy Kirby of Zachary; Brooke and Michael Desrocher. His step great-grandchildren, Brendan Desrocher and Vivian Kirby. He was preceded in death by his mother, Odelia Ponthier Grimball and his father Fred Gimball. Born on February 22nd, 1936 in Bunkie, LA, he was a resident of Zachary, LA for 39 years. As the owner of Cajun Pest Control, he dedicated his life to his profession. His passion for life and sense of humor endeared him to everyone he met. He always had a joke to tell and a special "nickname" for everyone. He loved his church and his Lord. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Zachary where he served as Head Usher. Pallbearers will be Jeffrey Lichtenberger, Adam Lichtenberger, Luke McCurry, Jerod McCurry, Matthew Heroman, Zeke Kirby and the Honorary pallbearer; Travis Kirby. Special thanks to Dr. DuPont and the staff at Baton Rouge General Hospital and to the many friends that supported the family during this time. Services will be held at the First Baptist Church in Zachary, LA on Friday November 23rd, 2012 at 12:00 pm, conducted by Dr. Wayne Barnes and Dr. Brythel Brantley. Visitation will begin at 9:30 am at the First Baptist Church in the main Chapel. Following the services, the burial will be in Azalea Rest Cemetery in Zachary, LA.
