Roger Braxton Wingett, a loving husband, father, grandfather and ardent family man, passed away Wednesday, December 26, 2012 after a brief battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his loving wife, children and grandchildren. He was 68 years old, a native of Pensacola and a longtime resident of Gonzales. He was retired from Union Texas Petroleum and currently worked as a real estate appraiser with Powell Appraisers. In the past he enjoyed coaching youth baseball, softball and basketball in Gonzales, and was an avid Saints fan. He loved his Lord and was a member of Ascension Baptist Church in Gonzales. He is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 47 years, Carolyn Varn Wingett; daughter and son-in-law, Kelli and Randy Lewis; son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Michele Wingett; daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Philip Chapman; grandchildren, Rory and Blake Wingett, Ashley, Andrew, and Anna Lewis, Abby, Matthew and Luke Chapman. He is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Faye and Danny Powers, of Amarillo, TX; and nieces and nephew. He was preceded in death by his father, RL Wingett; mother, Billie Jimmerson; and grandparents. There will be a visitation at Ascension Baptist Church, in Gonzales, Saturday, December 29, 2012, from 9:00 a.m. until religious services at 12:00 p.m. conducted by Rev. Keith Crider. Interment will be in Hope Haven Garden of Memory Cemetery in Gonzales. Pallbearers will be Rory Wingett, Blake Wingett, Andrew Lewis, Philip Chapman, Randy Lewis and Danny Powers.
