Velda Crowley Kean, 71, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, passed away January 3, 2013 surrounded by family and friends. She graduated from Pollock High School in 1959 and went to Natchez, Mississippi to study nursing. Following the completion of her coursework through Natchez General Hospital School of Nursing, she then moved to New Orleans to work at Charity Hospital toward her certification as a nurse anesthetist. In 1964, she married Thomas G. Kean, Jr. Velda was fiercely devoted to those she loved: her friends, her patients, and her family. Preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Helen Crowley, and brothers, Tommy Jo and David Crowley. She is survived by her husband, Tom and her children, their spouses, and three grandchildren: Donna, Tommy, Bonnie, Lucy, and Charlie Foust of Gainesville, Florida; Steven and Jill Kean of Williamsburg, Virginia, and Keith and Anne Kean of Prairieville, Louisiana. We offer thanks to all of those who cared for her in her illness. In lieu of flowers as a remembrance, please send a donation in her name toward scholarships at Our Lady of the Lake School of Nursing, 7500 Hennessy Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA 70808.
