Charles Douglas "Bop" Henderson, born April 14, 1922 passed away peacefully at 9:30am, PST on Saturday March 2, 2013 at his daugh-ter's home in Vista, CA. He was 90 years old and lived the last seven years in California. He was born in Quincy, Massachusetts and moved to Louisiana to play football at Southeastern Louisiana College where he met the love of his life Wilmah Gertrude Bunch. They were married in 1942, prior to his entrance into the military during WWII, from where he was Honorably discharged as Technical Sergeant. He received a MA in Vocal Performance from the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, Mass. Visitation on Saturday March 9, 2013 at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church in Clinton, LA beginning at 9:00am with recitation of the rosary at 10:15am followed by the celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial - Fr. M. Jeffery Bayhi presiding. Internment to be at Cazedessus Family Cemetery following the Mass. The Parish Hall, adjacent to the church will be open for gathering with friends and family and refreshments will be available. He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Wilmah B. Henderson, his wife of over 60 years; his parents Douglas and Lena Henderson; sister Germaine H. Corbett; brothers - Paul "Buddy" Henderson, Robert J. "Julian" Henderson, and Peter "Pete" Henderson; and a daughter - Betty. He is survived by: his brother Clifton "Cliff" Henderson; his daughter and son-in-law Sarah H. and Gregory T. Oivanki; daughter Mary Jane Washburn; and daughter and son-in-law Margaret H. and Michael "Mike" Hickerson; grandchildren: Dana, Gena, and Lori; Douglas "Doug", Charles "Charlie", Jacalyn, Nikki, Mary Catherine "Munch"; David "Davie", Robert, Shaunna, Steven, Allen and Christy; and 17 great grandchildren. He retired from Dow Chemical, LA Division after 25 years of service. His love and expression of music was given to all through his angelic voice by his participation in church choir directing, Baton Rouge Little Theater, numerous weddings and family gatherings. His hobbies included hunting, shooting, ammunition reloading, gun repairs and accurizing, and shooting pool. Pall bearers will be Mac Cazedessus, Paul Corbett, Gregory T. Oivanki, Michael Schiro, Jack Hartman, Hollis "Brother" Bunch, Douglas Shiflet, Daniel Cazedessus and David Clark. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Our Lady of the Assumption (OLA) Catholic Church, Clinton, LA. He was a resident of Denham Springs for 30+ years, a resident of Clinton (Bluff Creek), LA for 20+ years and spent the last seven years in Vista, CA. Bop was loved by all and will be truly missed.
