Mary Bunce Temple Erwin, a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend, passed away on Sunday, February 16, 2014 at North Oaks Medical Center at the age 92. She was a native of Rock Island, Illinois and a resident of Hammond since 1930. She was retired from The Hammond Developmental Center and was an active member of Blood River Baptist Church, where she enjoyed being a member of the WMU and volunteering in the kitchen. Mary was an outstanding cook and loved quilting, crocheting, working in her yard, and tending to her flower beds. She leaves behind her daughter, Margaret Nell Temple Sanders and husband Billy; sons, James M. Temple and wife Diana, and Hurlin Robert Temple Jr. and wife Betty; step children, Catherine Morgan, Margaret Watts, Eva Smith, Marie Smith and Jr. Erwin; 30 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; 8 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Orella Davis. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Hurlin Robert Temple Sr., and second husband, William "Bill" Erwin. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation from the chapel of Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home, west of Hammond, on Wednesday, February 19, 2014 from 6:00p.m. until 9:00p.m. and again on Thursday, February 20, 2014 from 8:00a.m. until the funeral service at 10:00a.m. Rev. L.C. Lord will officiate the services, assisted by Rev. Ed Jelks and interment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Hammond.
