He passed away at age 87 on Monday, Feb. 10, 2014, in The Guest House. He was born in Opelousas and was a resident of Baton Rouge. Survivors include his wife, Joyce B. Collins; 3 daughters, Lynda M. Collins of Baton Rouge, Carol and Shirley Collins, both of Opelousas; 4 sons, Calvin (Sarah) Collins, Minneapolis, Minn., Alton Collins, Long Beach, Calif., David D. Collins and Robert (Althea) Collins, all of Baton Rouge; 1 sister, Ludy Collins of Hitchcock, Texas; 6 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Octavia and Joe Collins, and one son, Gregory Collins. Visitation will be 1-5 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, at Winnfield Funeral Home, 7221 Plank Rd. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 21, at New Hope Baptist Church.
