Paul Allen Phillips, 86, of Wakefield, LA, passed away on Wednesday, February 12. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 1, at Grace Episcopal Church in St. Francisville, 11621 Ferdinand Street, at 10:30 a.m.; family visitation at the Church before the start of the memorial service will begin at 10:00 a.m. Paul was born in Manhattan, NY, on September 22, 1927. He graduated from Horace Greeley High School in Chappaqua, NY at 16 and joined the Merchant Marines. He served as a Merchant Marine in the Atlantic and Pacific during WWII. He graduated from the University of Michigan, Lansing, in 1950, with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Following the Korean War, Paul served with the U.S. Army Chemical Corps. His career with Shell Oil Company brought him to the ports of Philadelphia, New York and New Orleans. He retired to Portland, ME and then settled in St. Francisville, LA. He was a lifetime member of the Portland Marine Society and he attended Grace Episcopal Church in St. Francisville. His wife, Pat Martin Phillips, passed away six months ago. He is survived by two children, Christine Campbell and Roger Phillips and his stepdaughter, Colleen Hill. He was the grandfather of five grandsons, Hugh and Colin Wethered, Charles and Zachary Phillips and Chevis Hughes. In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested a donation in his memory to one of Paul's favorite charities, The Smile Train www.smiletrain.org/donate/donate-mail.html and Heifer International www.heifer.org.
