Emma Herring Major died April 15, 2014, at Lakeview Manor Nursing Home in New Roads, Louisiana, at the age of 99. She was born in New Roads to Thomas Ashley and Corine Garon Herring. She was a 1932 graduate of Poydras High School. She was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Baton Rouge and an Oblate of Saint Benedict. Emma was preceded in death by her parents, by her husband Paul Numa Major, and by her sisters and brothers-in-law Eloise and Jere Cotten and Theresa and Jodie Cotten. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Renée Major, of Livonia, by her granddaughter, Clare Major, of Oakland, California, and by her nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind cherished friends at Williamsburg Retirement Community in Baton Rouge. Visitation and a Rosary will be at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 3475 N. Sherwood Forest Blvd. in Baton Rouge at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, April 22, to be followed by a Latin Requiem Mass at 10:30 celebrated by Father Greig Gonzales, SSPX. Pallbearers will be Jodie Cotten, Mark Cotten, Thomas Cotten, David Trahan, Joseph Cotten, and Matthew Cotten. Emma will be buried in St. Mary of False River Cemetery in New Roads, with a graveside service at 1:00 PM.
