Lillie died peacefully at her home on Saturday, May 2, 2014 at the age of 101. She was born in Bayou Goula, Louisiana on March 4, 1913 and was a resident of Plaquemine, Louisiana. Visitation will be on Monday, May 5, 2014 at Wilbert Funeral Home in Plaquemine from 9 am until 12:10 pm, Mass of Christian burial at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church at 12:30pm, celebrated by Rev. Joel LaBauve. Interment in Grace Memorial Park. She is survived by her daughter and son in law Pauline ""Polly"" Distefano Higdon and Johnny Higdon; daughter in law Lucille Leggio Distefano; three grandchildren Michael and Paul Distefano and Jeanne Higdon Cancienne and husband Patrick, III; six great grandchildren Chantel Distefano, Matthew Distefano, Julianna Distefano, Patrick Cancienne, IV, John Clay Cancienne and Samuel Brooks Cancienne and sister in law Sally Engolio. Preceded in death by her husband Sam A. ""Prof"" Distefano, son Sam ""Buttie"" Distefano, Jr.; parents Joseph and Pauline Campesi Engolio; four brothers Johnny, Dominic, Edward and Charles Engolio. Special thanks to her loving caregivers Lilly Parish Harvey and Angela Arnold and Michael Barbee with Comfort Care Hospice. Pallbearers will be Michael Distefano, Paul Distefano, Patrick Cancienne, III, Dr. Frank Distefano, Steven Engolio, Steve Pastorek, Marc Distefano, and John ""Skeeter"" Engolio. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Distefano, Jr., Randy Engolio, Percy Hebert, Dr. Vincent Leggio, and Tommy Argust.
