Died 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 7, 2014, at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center, surrounded by close friends and family. She was 81, born October 30, 1932, in Zachary, to Guy Bryan Calhoun and Gertrude McHenry Calhoun. A graduate of LSU in 1953 with a degree in elementary education, she was married to Edward Blaise Landry of New Orleans, the "love of her life" for 52 years. Mae Dee was a member of Tri Delta Sorority, served on the Board of Zachary Historical Society, and was a long time member of the John James Audubon Chapter of the DAR. After serving over 2300 hours as a hospital volunteer and Gray Lady at Wright Patterson AFB in Fairborn, Ohio, during the 1970s, she was honored by the Dayton Chapter of the Red Cross. She was a dedicated and accomplished U.S. Air Force wife, as well as a wonderful and gifted homemaker in all the many places that she lived around the world and in the US. As an avid bridge player, she enjoyed playing in many groups and was also a member of The Portfolio Book Club. She enjoyed community relations as owner proprietor of Gifts from Katy gift shop for 19 years, which afforded her an opportunity to share her exquisite taste and artistic interests. She was a great cook, coming from a long line of accomplished women, and a talented seamstress. An avid fan of LSU and collegiate sports, she kept score for the LSU basketball team during her studies at LSU. A beloved mother to Laura Ann Landry, married to James N. Hauser, Bayou Vista, Texas, Cathy Landry Clark, married to Patrick Calhoun Clark, Camden, South Carolina, a son, David McHenry Landry, Baton Rouge, Louisiana and grandmother to Kelli Blaise Landry, Clinton, Louisiana, she was preceded in death by parents Guy Bryan Calhoun, of Calhoun, Louisiana, and Gertrude McHenry Calhoun, born in Abbeville and long time resident of Zachary, brothers Richard "Dick" Calhoun, of Shreveport, Louisiana, and Will Calhoun, Houston, Texas, son, Edward Blaise Landry, Jr., and her husband, Edward Blaise Landry, Lt. Col. Retired USAF. The family extends their appreciation to Dr. Clayton Brown and the caring nursing staff at Lane Regional Medical Center, and Mae Dee's many close friends and family for their great support and love over these past years. Visitation will be at Charlet Funeral Home, Zachary, Friday, May 9, 2014, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. She will be laid to rest with her beloved husband and son at Lake Lawn Metairie Cemetery, Metairie, Louisiana, in a private family gathering. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank, P.O. Box 45830, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, 70895, www.brfoodbank.org, or the LSU Foundation in Memory of Ed Landry to fund AFROTC scholarships at Louisiana State University, www.lsufoundation.org.
