Memorial services will be held at a later date for Richard Anthony Lopez, 89, who died on Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at Amelia Manor Nursing Home in Lafayette surrounded by his family. Survivors include three sisters, Mary Thomas Lopez, Juanita David and Piddy Lopez. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Viola White Lopez. He was also preceded in death by his faithful and loyal dog Patch. Richard Anthony Lopez was born in Sunderlund, England on May 28, 1924 and was a resident of Lafayette for over 80 years. He was a member of the United States Navy and proudly served his country during WWII and the Korean War. Mr. Lopez was a co-founder of the Acadiana Symphony Orchestra and played violin with them for over 40 years. He also played with the ULL Symphony for over 60 years and First Baptist Church for over 45 years, where he was also a member. His love for music will always be remembered and he will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. The family would like to give special thanks to his nurse, "Jo" Doucet as well as the nurses and staff of Hospice of Acadiana for their love and care, Jesse Arragon for her daily care and friendship, and the nurses and staff of Amelia Manor Nursing Home for their kindness, compassion and gentle care given to Mr. Lopez and his family during their time of need.
