Manuella Bates of Zachary, La. Passed away Sunday, May 4, 2014, to be with her Lord and Savior. Mandy was born in Newark Valley, N.Y. She moved in 1945 to California to marry the love of her life Raymond Bates while he was serving in the U.S.Navy. Together they raised 4 children. They were married for almost 69 years. She has always lived her life as a Christian woman and will be truly missed by her family and many friends. She was a member of Port Hudson Baptist Church and a former member of Galilee Baptist. Most of her life Mandy served others as a waitress while also being involved in the Boy Scouting program, with her husband, in many capacities. She was awarded the Den Leader Award and the District Award of Merit and was a 20 yr. member of the District Committee. She is survived by her husband Raymond Bates, sons Ronald and wife Diane of Calif., Randy of Texas, and Jeffrey of La., and a daughter Sherilyn and husband James Godbold of La.. Also a brother Raymond Pierce and wife Natalie of Conn., step-brothers; Harry Pewterbaugh and wife Marcy of Calif., and Larry Pewterbaugh of Fl.. Four grandchildren; Dalinda and Kevin Bates, Jean-Paul Renaud and wife Liz, and Alex Renaud and wife Alicia. Three step-grandchildren; Jesse Wyatt, Brian Wyatt, and Alisa Papp Wyatt and friend Raheem Graham. Six great-grandchildren; Samantha Eads, Kylie Renaud, Taylor Bates, and Clayton, Xander, and Sophie Renaud. And one step great-grandchild Tommy Wyatt. Her new extended family includes five grandchildren; Melissa White and husband George, Jennifer Cook and husband Kevin, James Goldbold III and wife Winter, Michael Godbold and wife Catherine, and Matthew Godbold. Six great-grandchildren; Rachel and Joey White, Bethany Godbold, Xzevix and Mihiette Yates, and Shanon Godbold. Preceded in death by her parents Genevieve Pierce Pewterbaugh and Raymond Pierce, step-father Percy Pewterbaugh, also a brother Gerald Pierce and a sister Eleanor Roge. Although we can not see her, she will always be by our side. Our family chain is broken, true, and nothing will be the same, but as God calls us one by one, our chain will link again. Our special thanks to St. Joseph Hospice staff under Dr. Susan Nelson (all of whom were so caring). Sherrelle and Brandie thank you for loving Mom so much. A memorial service will be held at Port Hudson Baptist Church, Hwy. 61 (just past Hwy. 68 up on the hill), Jackson, La. on Thursday, May 22, 2014 at 11:00 am. Please stay for lunch and fellowship afterward. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation made to St. Joseph Hospice or Port Hudson Baptist Church.
