Elvenia Mackie Christopher, 78, passed away on Thursday, June 5, 2014, surrounded by her two daughters. She was a native of St. Francisville and a resident of Baton Rouge. She retired from Baton Rouge General Hospital after 39 years of service. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, June 20, 2014, at Winnfield Funeral Home, conducted by Rodney O'Conner. Interment will be in Port Hudson National Cemetery. Survivors include daughters Floria (Walter) Jackson of Fairfield, Calif., and Raynae (Rickie) Grant of Jonesboro, La.; sisters Virginia Moncrief, Rose Mary Robinson, Mattie Wright, Nancy Haynes, Florida Mercadal and Doretha Turner; brothers Bennett Mackie, Earl Mackie, Lawerence Mackie and Ledell Mackie Jr.; and grandchild Candace M. Edwards of London, England. She was preceded in death by her mother, Nellie Mackie; father, Ledell Mackie Sr.; son, Albert Christopher Jr.; daughter, Connie Sherrie Christopher; husband, Albert Christopher Sr.; 2 brothers, Major and Willie Mackie; and one sister, Bertha Berry. Pallbearers will be Walter Jackson III, Rickie L. Grant, Randal Cummings Sr., Earl Mackie and Steve Whitelaw. Honorary pallbearers will be Bennett Mackie, James E. Mackie, Lawerence Mackie and Ledell Mackie Jr.
