Pegeen Hawthorne Sonnier, at the age of 55, passed away on Tuesday, June 17, 2014. Pegeen was a native and resident of Lafayette, one of eleven adopted siblings, herself born in Ireland. She was a beloved friend to all who knew her. Being with friends and family was one of the great joys of her life. Pegeen loved to celebrate all holidays, but Mardi Gras and St. Patrick's Day were her favorites. She was a member of the Krewe of Xanadu since 1992 and a Royal Muse in 1999 and 2001. She was a past member of the Lafayette Townhouse and current member of the Royal Order of the Troubadours. She was a member of the Petroleum Club. Many charities in our communities benefited from Pegeen's support and generosity. She belonged to the Junior League of Lafayette and was an active member of the Acadiana Dental Auxiliary, serving as president and puppeteer in the Auxiliary puppet shows for local school children. She was also an avid supporter of the Children's Shelter of Acadiana. Peg, who was very giving, will be missed by all of the lives she touched. She was preceded in death by her mother, Doris B. Hawthorne; father, Hugh A. Hawthorne; two nephews, Sean M. Doize and Nicholas H. Camos; one niece, Kathryne M. Willis and her dear friend of many years Ms. Mary Meyers. She is survived by her children: daughter, Mandy Sonnier West; son, Kory Michael Sonnier and wife Rebecca; four grandchildren, Michael and Caroline West; Benjamin and Sarah Kathryn Sonnier; eight sisters and two brothers, Danny (Gladys) Hawthorne, Jean (Jim) Willis, Maureen Hammons, Kitty (Billy) Doize, Sheila Hawthorne, Lisa Hawthorne Breaux, Dolly Hawthorne, Patrick (Celine) Hawthorne, Bonnie (Walter) Camos, Monica Hawthorne Coloumbe; and numerous nieces and nephews.
