James "Jim" Teer, 83, a resident of New Roads died on Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at The Crossing at Clarity Hospice in Baton Rouge, La. He was a loving husband, wonderful father, brother, grandfather and great grandfather and a friend to many. Jim was a United States Army Veteran of The Korean War. He retired as a Major from The Department of Corrections. Jim was born on December 1, 1930 in Hallettsville, TX. Jim loved playing golf with his friends before his health failed. He enjoyed sitting in his recliner with his faithful dog Mick on his lap. Visiting at Nilands Funeral Home in New Roads on Thursday, July 3, 2014 from 9:00 am until Religious Service in the funeral home parlor at 11:00 am. Conducted by Rev. Benjamin Teer. Entombment will be held in False River Memorial Park Mausoleum. Jim is survived by his wife, Shirley Rabalais Teer. Five children and their spouses; A.J. Teer and wife Nancy; Jim Teer, Jr. and wife Sandy; Susanne T. Pope; Bobbie T. Newhouse and husband, Leon; and Jane T. Usher and husband Paul. Eleven grandchildren, Molly, Declan, Elizabeth, Jesse, Vickie, Robin, Kim, Tami, Ken, Jr., Steven and Joseph. Fifteen Great-grandchildren. One sister, Ruth Teer Glaser Watts and one brother, Benny Teer and wife Joanita. Preceded in death by parents James M. Teer and Adele Willis Teer, brother, Robert L. Teer. Mother-in-law and father-in-law A.J. Rabalais and Lucille Ducote Rabalais; son-in-law Barry Pope and grandson Barry Pope, Jr.
