A native of Arcadia and a resident of Baton Rouge, she died Friday, August 8, 2014. She was 90, born November 18, 1923, to Leonard and Arbie Grimes. She was a retired EBR teacher and supervisor, and was a life member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., Mu Zeta Chapter. She is survived by 1 son, Eugene S. Harris (Carlise) of Woodbridge, VA, 3 daughters, Brenda C. Harris, Rev. Diane L. Bentley (Wilbert), and Arbrie H. King (Patrick), "adopted daughter", Stephanie M. Posey, "adopted" son Rev. Donald R. Hunter, Sr., all of Baton Rouge, 5 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, special friend, Alvin S. Lemons of Baton Rouge, her beloved caregiver, Joachina Noble, and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives. Preceded in death by her parents, first husband, Eugene Harris, second husband, William "Bill" Mayfield, her sister, grandson, aunt, niece, nephew and several sisters-in law and brothers-in law. Visiting at Winnfield Funeral Home on Friday, August 15, from 4 - 8 p.m. Visitation continues Saturday, August 16 from 8 - 9 a.m. at New Beginning Baptist Church, 7815 White St., followed by sorority ritual at 9 a.m., and religious service at 10 a.m. conducted by Rev. Donald R. Hunter, Sr. Interment at Southern Memorial Gardens, Baton Rouge. Winnfield Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
