Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2014 at a 10:00 A.M. Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady Fatima Church in Lafayette, for James Maddock McCarthy, Jr. M.D., 56, who died on Tuesday, August 12, 2014 from an accident. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. The glorious life and personality of James McCarthy Jr. cannot be described in one caption, but this is the beginning. Living a life through eyes that could only see optimism, Jimmy was a mentor and confidant to all lives that he touched. Always willing to offer a bit of keen insight with a dash of quick wit, Jimmy helped many people who struggled with daily obstacles, only after overcoming the most formidable obstacles himself. He lived his days with a humble attitude that was hidden behind a mask of superior intelligence and skill as a physician. Never wavering or complaining, Jimmy was an uncrushable rock to his family and friends, that stood tall and never asking for anything in return. Especially his two daughters, Annie & Mollie, whose love, dedication and affection for, knew no boundaries. Without a boastful attitude, but behind closed doors, Jimmy held a deep spiritual faith for the love of God that could only be witnessed through his actions for others. He had a special place in his heart for the Carmelite nuns with whom he sought comfort in and were very dear to him. Jimmy did fight the good fight, he finished his course, he kept the faith, not only at the end, but witnessed by all throughout his entire lifetime. Reverend Michael Russo, Pastor of Our Lady Fatima Church in Lafayette, will be the Celebrant of the Funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Lectors will be Derek Robichaux and Debra Basile. Giftbearers will be Meagan Steckler, Emma Martin, Gabrielle Robichaux, and William Robichaux. Survivors include the mother of his children, Kim McCarthy of Lafayette; two daughters, Annie Lauren McCarthy and Mollie Claire McCarthy, both of Lafayette; his father, James McCarthy, Sr.; four sisters, Jan Martin and her husband, Keith, Jennifer Steckler and her friend, Darryl Rabeaux, Joan McCarthy, Julie McCarthy and her friend, Shannon Holt. He was preceded in death by his mother, Joan Leblanc McCarthy. A native of Opelousas, Louisiana and a resident of Lafayette, Jimmy was a physician who loved fishing, bicycling, spending time with family and friends. He was a mentor to anyone in need. He was very generous with his time. Pallbearers will be Martin Lambert, Scott Thistlethwaite, Blake Castille, Chris Richard, Mark Cotter, and Tucker Nims. The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille's DOWNTOWN location on Friday from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM and on Saturday from 8:00 AM until time of service. A Rosary will be prayed Friday at 7:00 PM in Martin & Castille Funeral Home. Memorial contributions can be made in Jimmy's name to Carmelite Monastery.
