Raymond Mitchell Rodney Sr., a retired welder with Cargo Carriers for 37 years, passed away at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2014, at his home after a short battle with cancer. He was 68, a native of Mix, La., and resident of New Roads. He loved everyone. Visiting will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2014, at St. Augustine Catholic Church, with a rosary at 10:30 a.m. Religious services will be at 11 p.m. Tuesday at the church conducted by Father Joseph Conway Rodney Jr., SSJ. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Bernadine J. Rodney; three daughters, Camilia (Kenneth) Paul, Tabitha (Adam) Ransom and LaShaun Rodney; three sons, Raymond (Shiletta) Rodney Jr., Johnathon (Terry) Rodney, and Calvin Rodney Sr.; three sisters, Mary (William) Vercher, of Oscar, La., Virginia (Dr. Warren) Valdry, of Los Angeles, Calif., Hilda (Ron) Ford, of San Diego, Calif.; two brothers, Father Joseph C. Rodney Jr., SSJ, of Oscar, La., and Charles (Judy) Rodney Sr., of Temple Hills, Md.; 19 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Conway Rodney Sr. and Rosalie Gaudin Rodney, and a brother, Francis Rodney Sr. Funeral arrangements by A. Wesley of Maringouin, La.
