A retired employee of Union Tank Car Co. with 16 years of service and an employee of Baum's Fine Pastries for more than 50 years, he died at 12:55 p.m. Friday, April 16, 2010, at Baton Rouge General Medical Center. He was 72, a resident and native of Baton Rouge. Visiting at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church on Friday, April 23, from 9 a.m. until religious service at 11 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Vincent Alexius. A rosary will be recited at 10:30 a.m. Interment in Roselawn Memorial Park. He is survived by his devoted wife of 49 years, Edna H. Givens, of Baton Rouge; two daughters and a son-in-law, Delisa and Roderick Kenny, and Debbie M. Givens; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Herman Givens III, and Hadrian and Deatrice Givens; two sisters, Vivian Fields and Nancy Rogers; 12 grandchildren, Ranada Givens, Chole and Kylan Givens, Roddric Shropshire, Kemond Jackson, Denise Harris, DeMonica Dunn, Kierra Wilson, Hadrian Givens Jr., Rhea and Rheagan Kenny, and Hailey Givens; five great-grandchildren, Jadarius Givens, Jaliacia and Gerald Haney III, Reginald Jr. and Reniyah Grimes; three godchildren, Kirby Gordon Jr., Michael Davis and Toi Jordan; two sisters, Vivian Fields and Nancy Rogers; five sisters-in-law and their spouses, Patricia and Leo Williams, Linda and Charles Adams Sr., Joyce Hawkins, Eula Jackson and Florida Givens; two brothers-in-law, Floyd and spouse Gloria Marshall, and Richard Hawkins Jr.; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Margaret Givens; a brother, Willie Givens; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Richard and Bernice Hawkins; brother-in-law, Calvin Hawkins Sr., sister-in-law, Katie Hawkins; and nephew, Carlos Fields.
