A retired Southern Railway employee with 43 years of service, he died at 3:45 a.m. Sunday, May 9, 2010, at Southside Gardens Assisted Living. He was 86, a resident of Baton Rouge and native of New Orleans. A U.S. Navy combat veteran of World War II who served in the Pacific Theater, he observed the Japanese initial surrender party land on the island where he was stationed prior to their final surrender in the Philippines. Mr. Duhy was a dedicated and loving husband who cared for his wife until her death. He was also a loving father and grandfather. Visiting at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, on Monday, May 10, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visiting resumes at the funeral home Tuesday, May 11, from 9 a.m. until service at 11 a.m. Survived by a son, Frederick A. Duhy and wife Janet; three sisters-in-law, May Cazenave, Esther Nuhrah and Yvonne Nuhrah; brother, Samuel Duhy; three grandchildren, Evan Duhy, Seth Duhy and Sharon Duplachan; great-grandchild, Gavin Hymes; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his loving wife, Ramona Nurah Duhy; parents, Joseph and Augusta Duhy; brother, Joseph Duhy; and sister, Marion Burress.
