Milda Roussell Matherne passed from this Earthly world on Tuesday, June 7, 2011, at the Butterfly Wing of Hospice of Baton Rouge. Born on April 26, 1923, she was 88, a native of Gramercy, a longtime resident of Baton Rouge and Baker, and in recent years a resident of Harvest Manor Nursing Home in Denham Springs. She was a member of St. Isidore Catholic Church and the VFW 4224 Ladies Auxiliary, Baker. Milda was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is survived by her children, Sandra Matherne Madere and husband, Preston Madere, Susan Matherne Tourere and husband, Bobby Jo Tourere, Evan Matherne, Jr. and wife, Iris Jarreau Matherne, Debbie Matherne Moulard and husband, Kevin Moulard, Cathy Matherne Hansen and husband, Andreas Hansen, Elizabeth Matherne Joiner, and Jeffery Matherne; her grandchildren, Stephanie Madere Nuzzolillo and Sean Nuzzolillo, Jeannine Madere Muñoz and Victor Muñoz, Jason and Karen Madere, Sheila Tourere Allgood, Sonya Tourere, Candace Matherne Rogers and Cody Rogers, Kelly Matherne, Shawn and Caroline Jones, Tricia Moulard, Penny Stephens Dugas and Jeffrey Dugas, Dale and Wendy Stephens, April Stephens Smith and Cory Smith, Philip Moulard, Kodi Bewley, Jill Matherne Coon, Daniel and Catherine Pye-Sessions, and Nicole Sessions Holland; her 24 great-grandchildren; a sister, Eunice Roussell Breaud, and a sister-in-law, Irene Matherne Braud; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Evan Matherne Sr.; granddaughter, Lani Amanda Bewley; and parents, three brothers and four sisters. Visitation will be at Baker Funeral Home, 6401 Groom Road, on Wednesday, June 8, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., with recitation of the rosary at 7 p.m., and on Thursday, June 9, from 8 a.m. until the service in the chapel at 10 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Frank Bass. Burial in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Evan Matherne Jr., Jeffery Matherne, Preston Madere, Bobby Tourere, Kevin Moulard and Andreas Hansen.
