A retired truck driver and lifelong resident of Gonzales, he died at 4:40 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 1, 2011, at the Carpenter House of St. Joseph Hospice. He was 79. Visiting at First Pilgrim Calvary Missionary Baptist Church on Saturday, Dec. 3, from 10 a.m. until religious service at noon, conducted by the Rev. Irvin Briley Jr. Interment in church cemetery. He is survived by two daughters, Gloria Pinell and husband Severia Jr., and Cheryl Carter and husband Donald; son, Melvin Jr. and wife Andrea; five sisters, five brothers, eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his wife, Alice Cushenberry; daughter, Emily Marie; mother, Eola Cushenberry; father, Lafe Cushenberry Sr.; mother-in-law, Irma Morris; father-in-law, Albert Morris Sr.; three sisters and three brothers.
