Elizabeth N. Sowers (Betty) died on August 28, 2012 at St. James Place, Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She is survived by two daughters, Deborah Susan Sowers of Baton Rouge and Cynthia Ann Sowers of Ann Arbor, Michigan, and by her sister, Mrs. Alfred G. Biggs (Virginia) of Oakland, California. Elizabeth was born August 26, 1923, and married Louis M. Sowers (deceased July 22, 2001) in 1943. Mel was the love of her life. As an officer's wife in the United States Air Force, Betty was a vivacious and committed participant in the many responsibilities of that position. After Mel's retirement, Betty pursued a career as a real estate agent in Baton Rouge. When the couple moved to San Antonio, Texas, Betty became actively engaged in community service, volunteering at the Southwest School of Art and Craft and the McNay Museum of Art. Everyone who knew Betty remembers her beauty, her enthusiasm, her irrepressible sense of humor, and her love of the arts. We are grateful to St. James Place and to the St. Joseph Hospice for their thoughtful care and good fellowship during the last days of her life. Her ashes will be interred in Winnfield, Louisiana, next to those of her husband. Please go to Legacy.com to sign the Guest Book and view the Memorial.
