David Lee Young, 53, passed away Friday December 28, 2012 after a long battle with lung cancer. He was born to the late Mellie Lee Young, Jr. and Mildred Foye Hughes, Feb. 11, 1959, in Dothan, AL. David graduated from Destrehan High School in 1978 and received a BA in Auto Mechanical Engineering from Delgado Community College. He was a devoted husband to the love of his life Jacquelyn Young for 22 years. The couple lived in Folsom LA for 12 years, before relocating to Metairie LA in 2011. David was an adoring father, grandfather, brother and uncle. He is survived by five children: Anastasia Souza; Jamie Jett; John Sherman; Jenay Sherman and Chad Sherman. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and three siblings; Mark Thomas Young, Sr.; Sheila Y. Vicknair; and Michael James Duhe'. David was a master mechanic and worked diligently for various automobile dealerships. He was dedicated to his profession and had a passion for automobile mechanical excellence which encouraged him to start his own Snap-on-Tool franchise. David was an American Patriot who loved life, his family, country and his southern roots. He was a man of impeccable honor, courage, commitment and integrity. He volunteered and proudly served in the United States Air Force and was a decorated veteran. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions in memory of David be made to the Wounded Warriors Foundation. A Memorial Ceremony will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, January 12th , at his home in Metairie, LA.
