Melvin Clark Brown, 85, a resident of Zachary, LA died at his home on Sunday, March 17, 2013. He was retired, after working for the Ethyl Corporation for over 45 years. Visitation will be at Charlet Funeral Home, Inc. in Zachary, LA on Thursday, March 21, 2013 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and then on Friday, March 22, 2013, from 10 a.m. until services at 11 a.m., conducted by Dr. Wayne Barnes and Dr. Reggie Bridges. Burial will be in Resthaven Cemetery in Baton Rouge. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Evelyn Annison Brown; one daughter, Janet Lynn Petry and her husband Murrel of Richland, WA; one son, Michael Clark Brown of Zachary; eight grandchildren: Michael Johnson, Darryl Johnson and his wife Christina, Janell Poenitske and her husband Brian, Bill Brown and wife Missy, Jennifer Duke and husband Rob, Michelle McGee, Jennifer Petry, and Michael Petry and his wife Brenda; eight great-grandchildren: Sarah Poenitske, Ryan Poenitske, Bailey Brown, Hayden Brown, Faith Brown, Reggie McGee, Weston White, and Sidney Sterling. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Christopher David Brown. Pallbearers will be Rob Duke, Bill Brown, Darryl Johnson, Brian Poenitske, Eddie Annison and Dwight Annison. Honorary pallbearer will be Michael Johnson. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the Zachary First Baptist Church, where he served on many committees. In high school, he was an all-star in football, basketball and track. He graduated from Istrouma High School in 1944. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing.
