Francis Mitchell Beaird, Jr., 83, a native of Jackson, MS and resident of Baton Rouge since 1951, died peacefully on March 24, 2013. A U.S. Army veteran, he graduated from Millsaps College with a degree in chemistry in 1951 and relocated to Baton Rouge for a job with Ethyl Corporation, where he worked for 32 years, and ultimately retired in 1992 from Georgia Gulf. He was active with the Society of Plastics Engineers and the American Society for Testing and Materials during his career. His interests included sailing, fishing, enology, and international travel, particularly as part of the Baton Rouge chapter of the Friendship Force. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Geraldine C. Beaird, his son David Mitchell Beaird of Baton Rouge, daughter Elisabeth Booker Beaird of San Francisco, CA, daughter Margaret Beaird Paddock (Christopher) and grandsons Luke Francis Paddock and Jackson Hay Paddock of Atlanta, GA, his sister Charlotte Charles of Jackson, MS, his niece Marie Charles Cayson (Mike) of Starkville, MS, and great-nephew Benjamin Francis Cayson (Evelyn) of Southaven, MS. Visitation will be on Saturday, March 30 from 9:30 a.m. until noon service by the Reverend Jack Nutter at Rabenhorst East Funeral Home, 11000 Florida Blvd. Memorial donations may be made to Millsaps College, 1701 North State Street, Jackson, MS 39210.
