James W. Azok, 83, of Lorain, died Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, at Mercy Regional Medical Center in Lorain following a brief illness.
He was born Jan. 4, 1930, in Lorain, where he was a lifetime resident and graduated from Lorain High School in 1948.
James proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II
in the European African Middle Eastern theater.
He was employed as a recorder at U.S. Steel in Lorain for 38 years before retiring in 1986.
In his younger years, James played with the local sand lot baseball and softball teams and was an all-around avid sports fan.
He is survived by his sister, Gloria Porostosky of Lorain; brother and his wife, Franklin and Lenore Azok of Amherst; nephews Jonathan Azok of Amherst, Franklin E. (Stacey) Azok, Clifton (Galina) Azok; nieces Vicky Glick, Suzannne Woods, and Lenore J. (Frank) Yuhasz; as well as great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Ann Azok (nee Wargo).
Services were held privately by the family.
Hempel Funeral Home of Amherst was entrusted with arrangements.
