Jane Sadowski Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jul. 11 to Jul. 12, 2014.

AMHERST — Jane Kathryn Sadowski (nee Schriner), passed away on Friday, July 4, 2014, after a six-month battle with cancer.

Jane was born in Amherst, Dec. 12, 1938, to the late Maynard and Helen (nee Mischka) Schriner. Jane lived in Amherst most of her life, moving to Elyria for a brief time.

She graduated from Amherst Central High School in 1956. After receiving an academic scholarship, Jane graduated with honors from Kent State University with a bachelor's degree in journalism in 1960. While attending Kent State, Jane was an associate editor of the Chestnut Burr. She was a member of Theta Sigma Phi, a national fraternity for women in professional journalism. Jane began her career at the Chronicle Telegram, where she wrote for and edited the women's page. In the 1970s, Jane began a second career as a substitute teacher in Amherst while raising her children. Jane returned to college and received a bachelor of science in education from Ashland College in 1987.

Jane married Richard J. Sadowski on June 9, 1962. Together they raised two children, Beth and Andrew "Andy."

Jane was a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Amherst, for over 50 years. She was baptized, confirmed, and married there. She enjoyed the fellowship of St. Peter's UCC and was active in the Circle Six.

Jane loved being with her three grandchildren. She was an avid reader and shared her love of books and her pursuit of learning with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed attending many trips with Senior Citizens of Amherst.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law Beth and Charlie Yuhasz of Amherst; three grandchildren, Nicholas, Benjamin, and Christine Yuhasz; a brother, Thomas Schriner of Oceanside, Calif.; her nieces, Lisa (Darnton) Lewis and Kristin Schriner; and her new great-nephew, Greyson Thomas Lewis.

In addition to her parents, Jane was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Richard J. Sadowski (1998); and her son, Andrew J. Sadowski (2010).

A service was held Wednesday at Garland-Misencik Funeral Home, Amherst, with interim pastor Rev. David Plank of St. Peter United Church of Christ officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Jane's honor may be made to St. Peter United Church of Christ Restoration Fund, 582 Church St., Amherst, OH 44001.

Jane was a very special gift to so many. She was both a joy to know and a blessing. Her smile and laughter always made one feel better. I will miss her and will remember the great times we shared together. Ray Davies
