Dorothy Joann Pierce (nee Lux), 74, of Elyria, died Friday, Aug. 16, 2013, at Wesleyan Village in Elyria while under the care of New Life Hospice following a lengthy illness.
She was born April 14, 1939, in Pontiac, Mich. Dorothy was raised in Michigan and as a teen moved to Pasa/Robles, Calif., where she graduated from high school.
Dorothy attended Ferris State College in Michigan where she met her husband Clifford to whom she was married for 36 years. She moved to Elyria where she made her home since 1982.
Dorothy was employed at Sears as a supervisor in accounting for 29 years before retiring in 1997. After retirement she worked part-time at J.C.Penney's at Midway Mall.
Her hobbies included gardening, reading, and writing poetry.
Survivors include her son, James J. Pierce of Summerfield, N.C.; daughters and their husbands Brenda and Michael Sadowski of Amherst, and LuAnn and David Kljun of Hinckley; grandchildren Michael, Derek, Matthew, Rachel, Evelyn, and Joseph; two great-grandchildren; brother and his wife, Stanley and Genevieve Lux of Las Vegas, Nev.; and her sister and her husband, Rosalie and Floyd Koenig of Wooster.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Edward Pierce in 1995; and her parents, Joseph and Eleanore Lux (nee Spongberg).
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Aug. 20 at Hempel Funeral Home, Amherst, with her brother-in-law, the Rev. Floyd Koenig, officiating.
Burial was at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
