Christine Starnes (nee Freeman), 88, of Amherst Township, died Sunday, Sept. 1, 2013, at Kingston of Vermilion following a brief illness.
Christine was born March 7, 1925, in Wise, Va., moving to South Amherst in 1957. In 1979 she moved to Amherst Township where she had made her home since.
She devoted her life to making a home for her husband and children and was a member of the Free Pentecostal Church on Russia Road in South Amherst.
In her spare time she enjoyed her flower garden and bird watching. She enjoyed the relationships she formed with others and especially her family and grandchildren.
Survivors include her son, James C. (Carolyn) Starnes of Amherst; daughters Linda (Dennis) Abraham of Amherst and Brenda Reed of Amherst Township; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; brother, Joe Freeman of Indiana; and sisters Jeanett Cooke and Doris Wells both of Tennessee.
Christine was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Isaac J. Starnes; daughter, Judy Ellen; brothers Ralph, Ruford, Barney, Darrell, and Paul; and her parents, Gordon and Martha Freeman (nee Bateman).
Friends may call Thursday, Sept. 5 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m at the at Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday from the funeral home. The Rev. Cliff Morris of Lakeview Baptist Church will officiate.
Burial will follow at Kendeigh Corners Cemetery, Amherst Township.
