Garnett Burgin Gibson, 93, died Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2012. at Heritage Hall Nursing Home.
She was the wife of the late Garvice Gibson and was born March 26, 1919 in Anderson County to the late Tyler Preston Burgin and Frances Truman Case Burgin.
Gibson taught school in Anderson County for more than 33 years at eight different schools. She is a member of Sand Spring Baptist Church, a member of the Bethany Sunday School Class for more than 38 years, clerk for the Anderson County Ministerial Assoc. and secretary for more than 17 years, and the clerk for Sand Spring Baptist Church for more than 16 years. She served as former president and chaplain of the Anderson County Gideon's Ladies Auxiliary. She was an avid rook and canasta player.
She is survived by a son Reuben Carroll Gibson (Shirlene) of Louisville; a daughter, Geraldine Harrod (Russell) of Salvisa; five grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; two nieces, Marilyn Snyder of Louisville and Joy Stevens of Harrodsburg; a nephew, Joe Burgin of Harrodsburg.
Along with her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by a grandson, Russell Hampton Harrod; a great grandson, Geoffrey Scott Bellar; a sister, Marie Ritter; and two brothers, Elwood and Preston Case Burgin.
Funeral services were held Oct. 18 at Sand Spring Baptist Church with Dr. Mike Hamrick and Bro. George Dye officiating. Burial followed in the Lawrenceburg Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Bud Gritton, Charlie Cammack, Floyd Scott, Ellery Milburn, Ralph Morris, and Dorris Bruce. The member of the Bethany Sunday School Class served as honorary bearers.
