Charles Joseph Elder, Jr., 77, passed away Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at Baptist Health Louisville. He was a native of Louisville and son of the late Charles Joseph Elder, Sr. and Ruby Evelyn Sheehan.
A proud graduate of St. Xavier High School in Louisville, he received an Assoc. Degree in Criminal Justice from Eastern Kentucky University in 1972, served in the U.S. Air Force, and served 13 years as a Sergeant with the Kentucky State Police. He later started his own business of Safeguard Business Products and owned the Beaver Lake Boat Dock. In recent years he served as a Cert. Court Security Officer for the Anderson County Sheriff's Office and was a member of the American Legion Post #34, past president of Rotary Club, and a member of the NWTF.
Charlie is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Jane Miller Elder; three children, Todd (Diane) Elder of Louisville, Dean (Julie) Elder and Beth (Gabe) Welch, all of Lawrenceburg; 12 grandchildren, Cortney and Chris Cox, Katelyn Welch, Zack Elder, Laura Welch, Hayley Elder, Zachary O'Banion, Caroline and Hayden Elder, Madalyn Welch, Joshua and Nicholas O'Banion; a brother, Martin (Terry) Elder of Lawrenceburg; several nieces and nephews. Including his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters.
Funeral Mass was Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, 120 Gatewood Avenue. Fr. Chris Clay and Deacon Joe Bland will officiate. Burial followed with military honors in the Lawrenceburg Cemetery.
Charlie's grandchildren and nephews will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675-8518.
