Ada Bruce Gash went to be with her Lord on Friday, Sept. 15, 2017, while a resident of Taylor Manor Nursing Home in Versailles.
She was one of seven children born to the late John Dudley and Corinne Sweeny Gash on Dec. 3, 1933 in the Kirkwood area of Mercer County Kentucky. She graduated from the University of Kentucky with a degree in Home Economics and began her teaching career in Mercer County, then on to New Richmond, Ohio before finishing up her 32 year career in Fairborn, Ohio. Upon retirement she returned home to Salvisa and resided with her sisters on Sugar Street. Instilled with a love of teaching she spent the next 10 years as a substitute teacher in Anderson and Mercer Counties.
She is survived by her sisters, Joy and Mary Alice Gash, of Salvisa, Martha Jean Hahn, of Louisville; brothers, John D. (Miki) Gash, of San Jose, California, Jim (Joyce) Gash, of Harrodsburg; aunt, Blanche Sweeny, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; nieces and nephews, Doug (Kaye) Hahn, Lexington, Lesa Hahn (Donnie) Long, Louisville, Steve (Terry) Cosby, Bowling Green, Martha Lynn Cosby, Salvisa, Ashley Gash (Steve) Johnson, Los Angeles, California, Jamie Gash (Reb) Butler, Versailles, John (Lisa) Gash III, Lodi, California, and Tami Gash (Dave) Kim, Greenbrea, California. In addition her extended family included, several great nieces and nephews, as well as a great-great nephew.
Like her mother and sisters, she was skilled in hand crafting items for her nieces and nephews and always wanted to make sure each new arrival to the family had a hand knitted sweater and Christmas stocking. She particularly enjoyed the extended family gathering at Christmas where she would give out her favorite peanut brittle candy while playing cards with her sisters, nieces and nephews. Before her illness she was very active in, and a member of, Salvisa Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a sister, Nancy Lou Gash Cosby; two brothers-in-law, Charles H. Cosby and William Bryant Hahn; and a niece Jeanne Hahn Cooney.
Visitation was Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2017 from 4 to 7 p.m. and resuming on Wednesday prior to the funeral. A celebration of a life lived with humor, honor, and dignity will be held at Gash Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2017 at 10 a.m. with burial thereafter in Lawrenceburg Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests expressions of sympathy be sent to Bluegrass Navigators (Hospice), 663 Teton Trail, Frankfort, KY 40601 or Kirkwood Baptist Church, 1955 Kirkwood Road, Salvisa, KY 40372 or the Corinne Gash Memorial Scholarship Fund c/o James Gash, 535 McCroskey Road, Harrodsburg, KY 40330.
