Retired Colonel Robert Edward Yeager, Sr. 98, of Carlisle, died Feb. 28, 2014.
Born Jan. 24, 1916, in Oneida, N.Y., he was the son of the late Jesse and Stella Whittemore Yeager.
Bob graduated with a bachelor of science in history from Eastern Kentucky State Teachers College in 1943. He enjoyed travel and history, often combining both interests, but his greatest love was his family.
Colonel Yeager served 32 years in the U.S. Army as a Field Artilleryman. He is a veteran of WWII who served in the Philippines and Korea. He spent 20 years in Federal Service as an education specialist for the U.S. Air Force.
Bob was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Carlisle, Pa.
In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by sisters, Christine Wooddell and Jane Loomis.
Surviving are his loving wife of 67 years, Kathryn Carmon Yeager; daughter, Linda (Dennis) Rydberg; sons, Robert E. Yeager, Jr. and David (Barbara) Yeager; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held March 8 at the First Presbyterian Church in Carlisle, Pa. Interment will be held at a later date at The Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
