Edgar Charles McKenney, 102, died Aug. 23, 2012, at his residence.
He was born Nov. 20, 1909, in Hinton, Ky., as a son of the late Charles Walker McKenney and Bessie Lee Faulkner McKenney.
McKenney was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Edna Mae Overstreet McKenney; his daughter, Shelby Jean Sallee Moore; three sisters, Ona B. Kirby, Elna Florence Tatman, and Annadel Kitchen; and two brothers, Robert Paul and Earnest Carl McKenney.
McKenney retired in 1970 following 42 years as an employee of Southern Railroad. Previously, he worked as a Morris Telegrapher for Western Union and as a farmer, salesman and grocery clerk during the depression. He was known for his watch and clock repair service.
He was a member of the Lawrenceburg United Methodist Church, Anderson Masonic Lodge #90, and he was a Kentucky Colonel.
In his early years, McKenney was a charter member of Calvary Holiness Church in Lexington and later served in numerous capacities at the churches he attended.
McKenney is survived by a son, Edgar Charles McKenney, Jr. and his wife Lynda of League City, Texas; six grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and two sisters, Mary Beitzel Robinson Ward and Ada Swanson Sims, both of Lexington.
Funeral services were held Aug. 27 at Ritchie & Peach Funeral Home with the Rev. Karen Stigall officiating.
Burial followed in Bluegrass Memorial Gardens in Lexington. Masonic Rites were observed Sunday evening.
Pallbearers were Bruce McKenney, Doug Crossfield, Phil Kitchen, Mark Warford, Alton Warford, Jerry McKenney and Jerry Shaw.
