Gilbert Leon Shely, 86, husband of Gwen Cornish Shely, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jan. 28, 2018 at the VA Medical Center in Lexington.
Born June 25, 1931 in Lawrenceburg, he was the son of the late Arch D. and Zora Lee Wyatt Shely. Mr. Shely was a U.S. Army Korean War veteran; and served in the U.S. Navy Seabees. He was the owner and founder of Meadowthorpe Auto Body Shop, Inc. He was a member of the Lexington Masonic Lodge #1. Mr. Shely was very active in the Christian Church all his life; and served on various church boards, most recently on the board of Berea Christian Church, Lexington.
Survivors other than his loving wife of 66 years include four children: one son, Michael Lynn Shely, Lexington; three daughters, Teresa Gwen Shely, Lexington, Gina Shely (Roy D.) Martin, Georgetown, and Linda Lee Shely-Minor, Lexington; two grandchildren, Julie Michelle Lynn, Lexington, and Christopher Michael Gilbert (Heather) Shely, Nicholasville; and three great grandchildren, Taylor Michelle Lynn, Lexington, Brycen Christopher Shely and Ashton Robert Shely, both of Nicholasville.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Charles David Shely.
Funeral services will be held 2:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 2, at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, 3421 Harrodsburg Rd. in Lexington, by Preacher Jackie Miller.
Burial will follow in Lexington Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Christopher Shely, Brycen Shely, Jerry Shely, Larry Cornish, Greg O'Neal and Steve Vinson. Honorary pallbearer will be Roy D. Martin.
Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
