Glen Russell "Russ" Cox, 81, died Thursday, Sept. 12, 2013, at his home.
He was born Sept. 23, 1931, in Ohio County to the late Troy and Sybil Langford Cox.
Russ was a retired supervisor for Rand McNally for 34 years and served in the U.S. Army 5th Calvary Regiment during the Korean War. He was a recipient of the Korean Service Medal w/1 Bronze Star, Combat Infantryman's Badge and the Purple Heart. He was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Franklin Co. Post 4075 and a member of the American Legion Post 34 in Lawrenceburg. One of his many enjoyments was trap shooting. For multiple years he was the State of KY Champion and in 1999 inducted into the Hall of Fame. He loved to ride motorcycles, travel, and even had a pilot's license.
Russ is survived by his wife of 59 years, Jean Green Cox; four children, Belinda Cox Headen (Billy) of Salvisa, Barry Cox (Sue) of Morgantown, Celeste Cox Robinson (Danny) of Lawrenceburg, and Phillip Cox (Chrystal) of Willisburg; nine grandchildren, Stacey Gillespie, Stacy Waldridge (Rusty), Brian Cox (Jennifer), Lauren Henderson (Cameron), Jessica McGuire (Brad), Mandy Rogers, Amanda, Emily, and Olivia Cox; 10 great grandchildren, Taylor, Garrett, Levi, Lacie, Christian, Addison, Piper, Wyatt, Austin, and Blake; two brothers, Tom Cox (Shirley) of Arkansas and Mike Cox (Colleen) of Beaver Dam; several nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends.
He was also preceded in death by a brother Robert Lake Cox and his wife Jeralee.
Funeral services were held Sept. 16 at Ritchie & Peach Funeral Home with the Rev. Rick Clark officiating. Burial followed in the Lawrenceburg Cemetery with military honors.
Pallbearers were Barry Cox, Phillip Cox, Brian Cox, Cameron Henderson, Billy Headon, Danny Robinson and Garrett Gillespie. Honorary bearers were Jackie Sweasy, Dick Clouse, Jack Tom Phipps and Larry Giles.
