Harold Houchin Sims, 88, of Lawrenceburg, died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012, at Frankfort Regional Medical Center.
He was the son of the late James Washington and Ledo Houchin Sims. He was instrumental in the restoration of Salt River Baptist Church, a member of First Baptist Church and member of the Fishers of Men Sunday School Class.
He served in Army during World War II where he earned a purple heart, and was a retired letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for 28 years.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 34, and the VFW 4075 in Frankfort.
He is survived by his wife, Betty W. Sims, Lawrenceburg; daughter, Diane Sue Strom, Lawrenceburg; son, Harold Wayne Sims, and his wife, Margaret, Bardstown; grandchildren, Stephen Wayne Sims, Bardstown, Scott Franklin Sims, and his wife, Rachel, Louisville; three great grandchildren; Ashton, Sawyer, and Hadley Sims, Louisville.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, James Sims, Jr., and Arthur Thomas Sims; sister, Anna Christine Sims.
Funeral services were held Jan. 3 at Gash Memorial Chapel with Dr. Robert F. Ehr officiating. Burial followed in the Lawrenceburg Cemetery.
Casketbearers were Bud Gritton, Buddy Sims, Carl Bush, Carroll Taylor, Paul Barrick and Dave Disponett.
