John Garst McWilliams, 68, passed away unexpectedly July 23, 2018. Born Feb. 23, 1950, he was the son of the late George Jr. and Ann Garst McWilliams.
John was a 1968 graduate of Anderson County High School and attended Georgetown College and University of Kentucky. He served in the US Navy and the US Naval Reserves. He was employed for over 40 years at Wild Turkey Distillers in Lawrenceburg. He loved playing golf, fishing, baseball, and the Cincinnati Reds.. Known to many family and friends as Big John, he had a big heart and a kind and generous spirit. He delighted in his family and watching his grandsons grow, rarely missing a little league game. He also maintained many life-long friendships in his hometown of Lawrenceburg.
He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years Teresa Gritton McWilliams; daughter, Jennifer McWilliams Brennan (Patrick) of Lexington; son, Matthew McWilliams (Leanne) of Chattanooga, Tennessee. He is also survived by very special grandsons William and Jacob Brennan, and Asher and Archie McWilliams, and his brothers Bob McWilliams (Lynne) and Jim McWilliams (Fonda). Also surviving are his beloved nieces and nephews Patrick McWilliams (Nati), Lindsey McWilliams, Janie McWilliams, and Sam McWilliams.
A Celebration of John's Life was held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 26, at Ritchie & Peach Funeral Home. Visitation was held from 11 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday at the funeral home.
